Digital Marketing Agency Sunshine Coast for Google Ads, Search, Social and Your Website
When the website sits with one supplier, the ads with another and social with a third, nobody can say which of the three produced the work. That is a lot of managing for a business with four staff or fewer, and 88 per cent of the 39,239 businesses in the Sunshine Coast Council local government area are that size. All of it sits with one team here: Google Ads, search, social and the website the clicks land on. You get told what each channel produced last month, and there is no lock-in contract: the work is month to month. Ask us what deserves your money first.
Four Suppliers or One Team
A web person, an ads person, whoever posts on social, and then you, chasing all three. The Sunshine Coast Council local government area counted 39,239 trading businesses at 30 June 2025, and 23,573 of them had no employees at all, with another 10,973 on one to four people, 88 per cent between them. Only 37 businesses in the whole area employ 200 or more. More than half of them turned over less than $200,000 across the year.
So the owner reading this answers their own phone. Nobody in the building has marketing in their job title, and the website gets looked at in the evening, if it gets looked at.
Splitting the work across suppliers costs money that never appears on an invoice. The ads person does not know the website is losing enquiries. The web person does not know which searches the ads are paying for. Nobody owns the only number that counts, which is how many people rang. Smart Local has built more than 200 websites across more than 20 years of trading, so when the landing page is the thing holding a campaign back, we change the landing page instead of sending you a list of faults to take somewhere else.
Keeping each channel honest matters as much as joining them up. Google's own documentation gives three factors behind a local result, relevance, distance and prominence, and rules out requesting or paying for a better one. A spot in the ads is bought. A spot in the map results has to be earned. Google also warns buyers away from anyone who guarantees a ranking or claims a special relationship with it.
That is why the first thing a Sunshine Coast owner gets from us is a decision rather than a package: which channel is worth money first, what the website has to fix before a single click gets paid for, and what we will report back. No lock-in contract sits under any of it, and the work runs a month at a time.
Problems we fix
You cannot say which channel produced last month's enquiries.
The ads, the website and the social account sit with different people, and none of them counts the same thing. Without that number the next decision is a guess, and guessing gets expensive in a market that added a net 1,099 businesses across the Sunshine Coast Council local government area in one financial year. Call and form tracking goes across every channel first, then you get enquiries reported by channel each month, so the spending decision has evidence under it.
The ads run and the phone stays quiet.
The budget is spread over broad searches, or set to a radius that keeps paying for clicks well past the ground the business works: the Sunshine Coast Council local government area runs to 2,253.9 square kilometres. Every click paid for outside the ground you work produced nothing, and you paid the same rate for it. Search terms get cut back to the ones with a job attached, location targeting gets set to the suburbs you service, and calls are measured instead of clicks.
Somebody has promised you a top position.
A promise is easier to sell than a method, and it costs the seller nothing to make. Google states nobody can guarantee a ranking, and warns buyers away from any SEO that claims to or that claims a special relationship with Google. Results get reported as work already finished for named clients, which is the only form a claim can take when the advertiser has to be able to prove it.
Paid clicks arrive and the website loses them.
The site was built to look right rather than to take an enquiry, and nobody has touched it since the ads started. Buying clicks into a page that does not convert makes the leak cost more every week it runs. Website and conversion work happens in-house across more than 200 builds. At Secrets on the Lake, the Montville venue, website conversions rose 236 per cent over 90 days.
You are being pitched a separate AI package.
AI results are new and unfamiliar, which makes them easy to sell as an extra line on the invoice. Google's published position is that AI Overviews and AI Mode carry no additional requirements, that no new machine readable files or AI text files need creating, that no special schema.org structured data has to be added, and that SEO best practices remain relevant for those features. We do the fundamentals and report the AI result where it turns up, as with Morrisons Maintenance Plumbing, which services the Sunshine Coast: AI search results up 300 per cent over three months.
You think you are too small for an agency to bother with.
Marketing gets described in terms of teams and budgets. In the Sunshine Coast Council local government area, 34,546 of the 39,239 trading businesses run on four staff or fewer, and only 37 employ 200 or more. A four-person business is the normal case here rather than the exception, so the work has to be built for an owner who answers their own phone. Reporting is short by design: calls, form enquiries, and which channel produced each one. The work is month to month and carries no lock-in contract.
Who Is Moving In, and What They Search For First
At 30 June 2025 there were 381,957 residents in the Sunshine Coast Council local government area, a net gain of 7,659 over the year. Where that gain came from is the part that matters to a local business. Of it, net internal migration from elsewhere in Australia accounted for 4,159 and net overseas migration for 2,920, with natural increase adding 580.
A baby does not book a plumber. A household that arrived from Melbourne last month books one this week, along with a dentist, a conveyancer and someone to look at the pool. They have nobody to ask, so they ask a phone, and they choose from whatever comes back. Google ranks the local results on that screen by relevance, distance and prominence, which is how a business two suburbs away ends up invisible to them.
Those households are not reachable through one channel. Some of them type a service and a suburb into Google, some meet the name in a feed first and search for it later, and the business that is present in both places is the one they end up calling.
The arrivals are not a one-off. Queensland Treasury projects the Sunshine Coast Council local government area will hold 516,692 people by 2046 under its medium series, up from 346,634 in 2021. The businesses that are easy to find while those people are still picking suppliers are the ones that get asked.

Bright is the measured count. The 2046 figure is a Queensland Treasury projection, a model rather than a measurement.

Where the Marketing Money Leaks on the Sunshine Coast
The competitive set in the Sunshine Coast Council local government area thickened by a net 1,099 businesses during 2024-25, from 38,140 at 30 June 2024 to 39,239 a year later. Every one of those is another business bidding for the same searches and the same feed space you are paying for.
Construction is the largest group by a distance, with 8,376 businesses in the Sunshine Coast Council local government area at 30 June 2025, more than a fifth of every business counted there. Building approvals moved the other way, from 3,443 private sector dwelling units in the year to 30 June 2023 down to 3,219 in the year to 30 June 2025, while construction businesses in the same area rose from 7,983 to 8,376 over those two years. More trades, fewer new dwellings signed off, and the shortfall has to come from renovation, repair and maintenance work won locally.
Other industries are filling up too. Professional, scientific and technical services businesses in the Sunshine Coast Council local government area numbered 5,346 at 30 June 2025. Health care and social assistance added 510 businesses in two years there, 3,135 at 30 June 2023 against 3,645 at 30 June 2025. The other services division held 2,144 businesses and administrative and support services held 1,794.
The money leaks in the gaps between those numbers and what you are actually paying for. Spend goes on a broad term covering the whole coast when the job is one suburb and one service. Ads point at a page built to look nice rather than to take an enquiry. Social posts go out with nothing to click. None of it shows up until somebody counts calls against channels, and that counting is where this work starts.
Google Ads on the Sunshine Coast and What the Spend Buys
Start with what the money buys, because this is the part that usually gets skated over. A Google Ads budget buys placement in the ad slots for the searches you choose, in the areas you choose, on the days you choose. It buys position from the day it turns on, and the position stops the day you stop paying. Speed and control, rented.
The same money buys nothing in the local results. Google names relevance, distance and prominence as the three things that decide them, and says outright that a better local ranking cannot be requested or paid for. Two different jobs sit on the same screen, and a plan that treats them as one is where the waste begins.
For a Sunshine Coast account the work is choosing which searches carry a job and which carry curiosity. Somebody typing an emergency plumbing search at nine at night is worth paying for. Somebody reading up on how to fix it themselves is not. Location settings matter just as much. Inside the Sunshine Coast Council local government area, Mooloolaba and Alexandra Headland hold 2,381.6 people per square kilometre against 20.4 in the Caloundra Hinterland, a spread of 116.7 to one. A radius that makes sense from a Mooloolaba pin spends your money on empty ground once it reaches the hinterland.
Then the measuring, which decides whether any of it was worth doing. Calls straight from the ad, calls from the website, form enquiries, and which search produced each one. Lead counts are what gets reported back, because that is the number an owner can check against their own diary.
What you will not get from us is a promised position or a promised cost per job. A performance claim has to be provable before it is advertised, and the ACCC treats a claim as misleading on its effect rather than on anyone's intent. Google warns buyers away from anyone guaranteeing a ranking. So the ads plan you get describes what will be measured rather than what will be achieved, and no figure on this page is offered as a forecast for your account.
How Ads, Search, Social and Your Website Feed Each Other
Ads rent a position today. Search earns one over months and holds it while the work continues. Social keeps your name familiar to people who are not searching yet. The website is the only one of the four that turns any of them into an enquiry, which is why it gets attention first.
That order comes out of the arithmetic rather than out of a typical speed. A paid click landing on a page that cannot take an enquiry is money already spent, so the page gets fixed before the clicks are bought. Secrets on the Lake, the venue at Montville in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, had website conversions rise 236 per cent in 90 days. That is one account over one stated period and not a forecast for another.
Smart Local has built more than 200 websites, so when a campaign stalls on the site itself, the change happens here rather than in an email to your web person. The same team then knows which pages the ads point at and which pages search brings people to, and those are usually different pages doing different jobs.
There is one upsell worth refusing. Google states there are no extra requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, no machine readable files or AI text files to create, and no special structured data to add, because normal SEO best practice is what applies. Anyone selling a separate AI product is charging you twice for work you should already be getting.
Social sits at the front of the chain rather than the end. It keeps the name familiar, so the ad gets clicked and the search result gets recognised. Broad organic search, Google Business Profile work and suburb-by-suburb expansion each have their own page on this site, and all of them feed the same website and the same enquiry count.
What We Run, What It Includes, and What Gets Reported Back
A Sunshine Coast plan usually includes Google Ads, search, social, the website itself, and the conversion work that makes the rest pay. Which of those starts first depends on what the business already has and how fast it needs work.
Smart Local ranks more than 6,000 keywords across its own and client properties, which is what tells you this is a system rather than a run of luck, and there are more than 1,000 documented client success stories behind the approach. Across more than 20 years of trading the lifetime count of leads generated for clients passes a million, which is a total across every channel rather than a figure belonging to any one of them. It also runs its own method, which it calls World First GPS Local Signalling, for sharpening how a business reads as local in a given area. That is Smart Local's own technology and Smart Local's own name for it, not a product Google offers or endorses.
What comes back to you each month is a short list: how many calls, how many form enquiries, which channel each one came from, and what changed. Of the 39,239 businesses in the Sunshine Coast Council local government area, 34,546 run on four staff or fewer, and that is the size of business the report has to make sense to.
Cost depends on scope, so it is a conversation rather than a number sitting on a page. What moves it: how many suburbs you want to be findable in, how many services you sell, whether the website needs rebuilding before ads run, and whether search and social run alongside the ads. The commitment stays small, with month-to-month work and no lock-in contract. Ask for it on the contact page and you get the plan and the figure together.
- Google Ads management Search campaigns built, targeted and judged on the enquiries they produce. Location targeting gets set to the suburbs you actually service, because a radius that works from a Mooloolaba pin, where 2,381.6 people share each square kilometre, spends your money on empty ground at 20.4 per square kilometre in the Caloundra Hinterland, the two ends of the Sunshine Coast Council local government area.
- Website design and rebuilds The site every paid and unpaid click lands on, built to take an enquiry. Handled in-house across more than 200 builds, so a campaign held back by the site gets the site changed rather than an email sent to your web person.
- Conversion optimisation Changes to pages that already get visitors, so more of those visitors make contact. Secrets on the Lake, the venue at Montville, had website conversions rise 236 per cent over 90 days. That is one account over one stated period, not a forecast for yours.
- Social media marketing Posting and paid social that keeps the business familiar to people who are not searching yet. It earns its place because the population gain in the Sunshine Coast Council local government area was mostly a migration balance: net internal migration of 4,159 and net overseas migration of 2,920, against 580 from natural increase. A household that has just moved knows none of the local names, which is the gap this work is there to close.
- Lead generation Every channel pointed at one number, the enquiries that reach your phone or inbox. Reported as calls and form enquiries by channel each month, sized for the 34,546 businesses in the Sunshine Coast Council local government area that run on four staff or fewer.
- Local search visibility Google Business Profile and suburb-level search work, set out in full on its own pages. Kept separate from the ads on purpose. A local result is decided on relevance, distance and prominence, and Google says it cannot be bought.
Results From Sunshine Coast Businesses We Work With
Four results follow. Each names the business it came from, and three of the four carry the period they were measured over. None of them is a forecast for a new account.
Secrets on the Lake, the venue at Montville in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, had website conversions rise 236 per cent in 90 days. Billabong Pool Service saw Google Business Profile interactions more than quadruple, up 338 per cent across three Sunshine Coast locations in six months. Bob Jane T-Marts at Buderim had Google profile visits rise 428 per cent through AI-optimised listings, while holding a top local ranking; Smart Local's own record carries no measurement period for that one, so none is stated here. Morrisons Maintenance Plumbing, which states it services the Sunshine Coast from Noosa to Caloundra and Maroochydore to Nambour, saw AI search results up 300 per cent over three months and traffic and keywords up 400 per cent over six.
Google is clear that nobody can guarantee a ranking. These are records of work already done.
Questions we get asked
Do you manage Google Ads for Sunshine Coast businesses?
Yes, and usually alongside the other channels rather than on its own. The account gets built around the searches that carry a job, targeted at the suburbs you service, and judged on calls and form enquiries rather than clicks. No lock-in contract, and the arrangement is month to month.
Should I put money into Google Ads or into search first?
Ads buy a position from the day they turn on and stop the day you stop paying. Search takes longer and holds while the work continues. Google's answer is that a local result turns on relevance, distance and prominence, and that no amount of money moves it, so the two are separate jobs. Which one goes first depends on how fast you need work and what your website can handle today, and you get that recommendation before you spend.
What does Google Ads management cost on the Sunshine Coast?
It depends on scope, so we quote after a short conversation rather than putting a number on a page. What moves it: how many suburbs you want to be found in, how many services you sell, whether the website needs work before ads run, and whether search and social run alongside. Send through what you sell and where, and the plan and the figure come back together. There is no lock-in contract either way.
Can you guarantee I will come up first?
No, and be careful with anyone who says they can. Google states plainly that nobody can guarantee a ranking, and warns buyers away from any SEO claiming to, or claiming a special relationship with Google. Australian Consumer Law puts the burden on the advertiser: a performance claim has to rest on reasonable grounds, and it can mislead even where nobody meant it to. So the results here describe finished work for businesses you could ring, and none of them is offered as what your account will do.
Do you build the website too, or do I keep my web person?
We build it. Smart Local has put up more than 200 websites over more than 20 years of trading, so when a campaign is being held back by the site, the site gets changed. At Secrets on the Lake, the Montville venue, website conversions rose 236 per cent over 90 days.
Am I too small to bother with an agency?
Nearly every business around you is your size. Of the 39,239 businesses in the Sunshine Coast Council local government area at 30 June 2025, 23,573 had no employees and another 10,973 had one to four, while only 37 employ 200 or more. More than half of them turned over under $200,000 for the year. The businesses ahead of you in the results are likely to be about your size too.
How long before anything happens?
It varies by channel and by account. Ads produce clicks the week they start. Website and conversion work has moved quickly before, with conversions at the Montville venue Secrets on the Lake rising 236 per cent over 90 days. Profile and search work has run longer, as with Billabong Pool Service, where Google Business Profile interactions rose 338 per cent across three Sunshine Coast locations over six months. Neither is a promise for a new account.
Do I need a separate AI package on top?
No. Google says there are no extra requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, no machine readable files or AI text files to create, and no special structured data to add, because normal SEO best practice is what applies. Morrisons Maintenance Plumbing, which services the Sunshine Coast, is the example here: AI search results up 300 per cent over three months, traffic and keywords up 400 per cent over six.
